Mungkan Kaanju (Kandju) National Park is a wilderness park of open woodlands, melaleuca swamps and rainforest. This park is a living cultural landscape, rich in significance for the Aboriginal Traditional Owners. It stretches from the McIlwraith Range foothills and is bounded by the west-flowing Archer and Coen Rivers. Bush camp at one of several secluded campsites. Go birdwatching around waterlily-covered lagoons and forest-fringed riverbanks. Go spotlighting in the rainforest to sight the common spotted cuscus.

The park is 10 to 12 hours north of Cairns, through Coen to the Rokeby turnoff. Access is possible only by four wheel drive and only in the dry season (May to October).
