Karumba Community Anglers Classic focuses on fun, family, friendship and fishing in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The event involves a fishing competition with numerous categories both serious and novel. The event features numerous activities such as demonstrations on crab tying, luring and cast net throwing, stalls and promotional sessions from Boating and Fisheries Officers, sponsors and local business.

The event is a platform for promoting responsible and sustainable recreational fishing with a high focus on catch and release. The community benefits from the event as funds raised are distributed to various not for profit groups. Prizes and trophies are valued at over AUD30000.00.

Gulf seafood snacks and meals are available through the weekend, along with a band, Lions Club barbecues and more. Weekend markets are also operating.

FURTHER INFORMATION


Children: Children are welcome. Special categories for children within the competition, demonstrations, entertainment and facilities.

Disabled: Access is available for guests with a disability. Many local businesses have disabled access, the event is mainly outdoors and is inclusive of all needs to a high degree.

Miscellaneous:

Whole of community event with a high level of sponsorship and support from th wider regional area. Nominations are accepted all day Friday 17th April and between 0700 and 1100 on Saturday 18th April. Competition closes at 1600 on Sunday 19th April.

Karumba is located approximately 780 kilometres west of Cairns via the Savannah Way and approximately 600 kilometres north of Mt Isa on the Gulf of Carpentaria Coastline.
