When you arrive they highly recommend that you call in and pick up a local Mission Beach Map and have a volunteer assist you to get your bearings. They have a range of generic brochures providing information on campsites, swimming holes, restaurants and cafés, self drive guides, fishing, walking tracks, national parks and safety in the tropics. The Visitor Centre offers a wide range of souvenirs and informative displays regarding the environment and wildlife in and around Mission Beach. They are lucky to have two World Heritage listed sites on their doorstep - the Wet Tropics Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. How To Get There
Mission Beach is located on the coastline between Cairns and Townsville and bounded by World Heritage Tropical Rainforest and 14 kilometres of golden sandy beaches. It consists of four villages, Bingil Bay, Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach and South Mission Beach.
On the drive in from El Arish off the Bruce Highway you will find the Mission Beach village which has outdoor cafés, a beachside resort, gourmet restaurants, bistros and bars, galleries, fashion stores and a relaxed, friendly ambience.
A six minute drive north of the Mission Beach village you will find, Bingil Bay, the most northern beachside suburb. Bingil Bay has a popular café, nearby rainforest walks and is a haven for artists, writers and musicians.
A five minute drive south of the Mission Beach village you will find Wongaling Beach, the closest point to Dunk Island and providing spectacular views. The coaches arrive here and there are a range of accommodation, cafés, restaurants, beachfront bars, a large resort and a shopping centre hub with Woolworths and other stores.
A further five minute drive south and you will find South Mission Beach. This beach has glorious views across to Dunk Island, Bedarra, the Family Group and the largest National Park Island in Australia, Hinchinbrook Island. Enjoy Fish & Chips at the beach, Kayak and boat hire available and the iconic resort on Tam O'Shanter Point provides a world class restaurant and spectacular views to the islands.
