Description
The Kennedy Track is one of the longer walks in the Mission Beach area, taking about four hours to complete the eight kilometre return journey (graded track). However, most people choose to do shorter sections of the walk such as the five kilometre return walk to Tam O&##039;Shanter Point.
... moreThe first part of the walk is through shady pandanus and eucalypt forest. After a little more than a kilometre there is a set of steps down to the long curved beach of Lugger Bay.
There is a short climb up Tam O'Shanter Point to a lookout with superb ocean views. If you choose to keep walking, the track winds its way around the rocky point to Kennedy Bay where there are toilet and picnic facilities, ideal for lunch.
For the adventurous, there is a rougher track along the coast to the mouth of the Hull River, about four kilometres return.

To ensure your visit is fun and comfortable, try to visit between April and October when the weather and track conditions are at their best. Highlights of the Kennedy Track include: sandy beaches, eucalypt forest, shady pandanus and beautiful views. The track is eight kilometres long has a moderate degree of difficulty and will take approximately four hours to complete. Be aware that sometimes the beach of Lugger Bay and the mangroves beyond can be flooded by the high tide. Wear a hat and sunscreen. Carry plenty of water.
How To Get There
From the Mission Beach Visitor Centre, take the road to Tully and, not far out of town, turn off to South Mission Beach. The trailhead for the Kennedy Track is located at the southern end of the beach, where Kennedy Esplanade terminates just past the boat ramp.
