Description

The 2012 SunWater Burdekin Water Festival is a celebration of the abundance of water in the district. It is one of the longest running festivals in Queensland, with the first festival being held on 6 September 1958.

Each year, a dedicated band of volunteers organises three months of exciting events and competitions, including the Tastes of the Burdekin, Pet Show, Art Show, Gala Balls and the Grand Street Parade and Mardi Gras, attracting visitors from all over the region.

The theme for 2012 -- Our Land Our People -- recognises the contribution of the local primary producers and the diverse cultural groups that make up the Burdekin community and will be reflected in the events, decorations and food on offer throughout the festival months.

In line with this year's theme, the 2012 SunWater Burdekin Water Festival is also a Proud Supporter

of the Australian Year of the Farmer.
