The Burdekin Water Festival attracts all ages of the community as well as those who travel from other centres to participate in, and enjoy, the festivities. In 2007, 6,000 people attended the parade and Mardi Gras and each year the festival increases in size as it becomes more widely known throughout North Queensland.
Exciting events and competitions are held as part of this festival such as Garden Competition, Window Competition, Pet Show, Art Show, Gala Ball, Street Parade, Mardi Gras and International Food Fair as well as other fun activities that encompass the whole community.

From Townsville - Travel south along the Bruce Highway for approximately 80 kilometres to the town of Ayr. The festival is conducted in Queens Street, Ayr which forms part of the Bruce Highway. From Bowen - Travel north along the Bruce Highway for approximately 100 kilometres. When you arrive in the town of home hill, continue north along the highway for 15 kilometres and Queen Street, Ayr forms part of the Bruce Highway.
