Departure point for vessel to island is Port Hinchinbrook Marine Cardwell, a coastal town between Townsville and Cairns. Cardwell has full infrastructure including shops, boat ramps, bus and rail, post office. The hospital is 30 minutes from Cardwell but helicopter evacuation is available from the island where necessary.
There is a small gift shop as part of the lodge. Anything required can be ordered from the mainland. There is a library with novels and reference books, games and a DVD player. There are full laundry facilities with washing machine and clothes dryer.
Hinchinbrook Island is located off the coast of Cardwell. Two and a half hours drive south from Cairns, or two hours drive north from Townsville, Port Hinchinbrook is the gateway to Hinchinbrook Island. A daily ferry transfers guests, hikers and campers to Hinchinbrook Island Wilderness Lodge.
