South Burnett
Think crisp starts and warm inviting days, richly coloured red and orange leaves, festivals of food and wine: Autumn glows in South Burnett. For an experience that verges on the spiritual, spend a day on the Bunya Mountains. Autumn is one of the best times of year to visit, with the solemn majesty of ancient Bunya pines creating a cool, calm, reverent atmosphere. Whether your tastes run to pumpkins, peanuts, or the great common denominator of wine, the South Burnett and Bunya regions are ripe for harvest in Autumn. From April through to early May the red dirt of Kingaroy is flying as the peanuts are harvested, while Goomeri celebrates the pumpkin's humble versatility in May. The South Burnett is acknowledged as a growing and developing wine producing region. Well-established wineries harness the region's unique climate and soil to produce great Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Semillon varieties.
