Journey Routes

  • Kingaroy to Kilkivan

'Taste South Burnett' is a cellar door and gourmet larder showcasing the region's diverse artisan produce. Located at the Old Kingaroy Butter factory established in 1907, this is the ideal launching pad for your culinary journey. Stop at Kingaroy's iconic Peanut Van (serving road trippers and locals since 1969!) before heading to Sunny Ridge Gardens Teahouse and Fudgery for a homemade treat. Nearby Booie offers boutique Crane Wines and the sensational Bello Vista where you can soak in panoramic views of the Glass House Mountains and Sunshine Coast over a delicious meal. For smallgoods and local beef, stop in at Wooroolin Meats to purchase direct from the farmer (who prides himself on using his own old style smokehouse) before resting at the 'Tinny' Pub at Tingoora. Then it's on to Bunya's Goomeri Cheese World to sample the mouth-watering wares. Upon arrival at Kilkivan you'll be welcomed with country hospitality at The Left Bank café and B&B. The old bank chamber hosts a local produce pantry so you can take home a taste of the region. Enjoy sundowners at the Kilkivan Hotel - owned by famed outback boxing tent operator Fred Brophy - or stargaze beneath the clear skies.

  • Kilkivan to Nanango

Continue southward from Kilkivan to Moffatdale Ridge Winery. This property has been loved by the same family for over 100 years and is a real palette pleaser. Next stop is one of Queensland's largest wineries, Clovely Estate. The cellar door entices with premium varietals and the Old Dairy Restaurant is open weekends offering French-inspired cuisine. No need to rush, cosy up for the night in Clovely Cottage. Alternatively, take timeout from tasting at nearby Lake Berambah. Cast a line to lure Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Saratoga and Australian Bass; or simply immerse yourself in the surrounding 2150 hectares of lake.

  • Nanango to Kingaroy

Nanago's Red Fox Pitayas Dragon Fruit Farm is a delicious way to begin the next leg of your gourmet tour. Explore the plantation amid the peacocks and vine-like cacti with striking blooms that span up to 30cm across. Stop in at Coolabunia's Whipbird Cafe for homemade baked beans, using the delicious Kingaroy navy beans, and drop into their cellar door for Arabesque Wines (Thursday to Sunday). From here follow the sweet scent to Pottique Lavender Farm. This charming experience offers everything from lavender liqueur to lavender scones - you can even wander the fields and pick your own.
