Standing at 30 metres in height, this awesome sand dune, Big Red, provides a challenge for any four wheel drive enthusiast. The first of 1,113 dunes in the Simpson Desert, the spectacular sunsets from the top of Big Red are an experience not to be missed.

General Comments
For visitors traveling into the Simpson Desert (further west than Big Red) it is recommended that they contact the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service office, Birdsville Police or the Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre for further advice as it is a very remote area and the trip requires careful planning and preparation.
How to get There
Big Red is located 35 kilometres west of Birdsville and is accessible to most vehicles dependent on road conditions. Please see the Simpson Desert National Parks office or the Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre in Birdsville for up to date road conditions.
