Description

In Currawinya National Park, waterbirds and migratory shorebirds are drawn in their thousands to globally important wetlands - but the area has another special significance: the Bilby Fence. A predator-proof fence has been built within this park to protect the very popular but endangered Aussie mammal, the greater bilby.

Captive-bred and rehabilitated bilbies thrive in safety here within a 25 square kilometre enclosure. Take your binoculars: with 200 bird species and four large kangaroo species, wildlife watching in this park is a stunning experience. Drive (four wheel drive only) to saline Lake Wyara and freshwater Lake Numalla early in the morning. Fish the Paroo or canoe and swim at Lake Numalla. Bush camp at Ourimperee Waterhole behind the Woolshed or near the old Caiwarro Homestead site on the Paroo River.
