May Day Celebrations is the biggest weekend of the year for the outback town of Barcaldine, the birthplace of the Australian Labor Party. The weekend kicks off with the sportsman's dinner at the historic Shire Hall on the Friday night.
The Tree of Knowledge Cup Race meeting is held on the Saturday afternoon at the Barcaldine Racecourse, followed by the Speed Shears Competition at Crawchie Pot including a bar and barbecue.
On Sunday join in the rev-fest with a one eighth of a mile drag racing competition which is open to various classifications of cars. Join in and watch the Rugby League match and the heat of the Goat Races on Sunday afternoon.
Monday will include markets in the main street of Barcaldine, followed by a parade. The procession culminates in a sports day at the showgrounds for the whole family which will include the finals of the goat races.
