This walk in Lamington National Park roughly follows the route taken by Bernard O'Reilly on his historic trek to find and rescue survivors of the Stinson Airliner crash in 1937.
Follow the path from O'Reilly's to Echo Point before a rough and steep trail leads you over Mount Worendo and behind Durigan to the site where Rat-a-tat Hut stood. Then take the long climb up Mount Thoakban with an equally long descent on the other side.
The end of day one is rewarded by the view from Point Lookout. The Point Lookout campsite is level and water can be found south-west of the lower campsite.
The next day is easier - visit the Stinson crash site before the descent into Christmas Creek. Westray's Grave is an idyllic site upstream of where the track meets the creek. Wandering by the banks of Christmas Creek is a lovely finish to this walk.

Walk Hints
This is a challenging trek that should only be attempted by experienced well-equipped walkers. Wear insect repellent to discourage leeches and carry wet-weather gear and warm clothing. Mobile phone reception is usually available from the mountain tops.
Best Time To Go
In Lamington National Park the bushcamp sites are closed for December and January. The increased chance of rain, leeches and overgrown trails mean late summer and autumn should be avoided. Winter is cold but best for clear views.
