Mackay’s coastline lets you explore beach after sandy beach. Here they tend to be quiet and unspoilt, yet still within easy driving distance of the city.
Close to the city is Eimeo Beach, where you can grab a beer on the Eimeo Hotel’s huge deck with stunning views across the Coral Sea, to the islands.
North and south of the city, the landscape varies from acres of flat cane fields butting up against the beaches, to craggy rocks rising out of the sea, to steep forested slopes running right into the water, the one constant being the serenity of an endless beach.
You could be the only person on the beach, you might find yourself talking to a local about the best places to go fishing or you might enjoy a beautiful sunrise with the wallabies at Cape Hillsborough!
