Gladstone's heritage experiences include a visit to the Boyne Valley Historical Society Cottage for a fascinating look at the gold and copper mining days of the 1870's, and the Gladstone Maritime Museum which includes some fine models of early sailing vessels.
The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum promotes current local artists and is also a focal point for the region's history and cultural heritage. In contrast, various industry tours take in some the country's most impressive facilities including one of the largest alumina refineries in the world.
Regular weekend markets abound in the city and surrounds. The monthly Calliope Historical Village Markets are one of the largest in Queensland, the Cedar Galleries Farmers Markets at Benaraby are great for fresh produce, and the popular Miriam Vale Markets are held every third Saturday of the month.

The Boyne Valley Historical Society Cottage was opened in 1988 and was formed by a group of enthusiastic volunteers with a desire to preserve the vast history of the Boyne Valley, which dates back to the 1870s, when gold and copper mining put the Valley on the map, followed by the settlers who pioneered industries such as cattle grazing, farm produce, dairying and a thriving timber and saw-milling industry, which still exists today.
