The hub of the region is Gladstone City on the shores of Port of Gladstone, Queensland's busiest harbour. Gladstone is a great spot for visiting a cafe or restaurant for fresh seafood, as well as being host to some lovely parks, botanical gardens, museums and heritage buildings.
The seaside twin towns of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands are a treasure trove for fishing enthusiasts - both freshwater and salt - with Lake Awoonga providing good fishing in all seasons. Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy offer a popular surf beach and are gateways to the Southern Great Barrier Reef including Lady Musgrave Island and tours to the outer reef.
In contrast, the Banana Shire is a rich agricultural and mining region and a great place for scenic country drives, adventuring in National Parks and freshwater fishing in Lake Callide.
