Natural Encounters

Whether it's an easy stroll through towering evergreen forests, or the solitude of camping along the beautiful coastal landscape, Gladstone offers an impressive setting for all kinds of nature-based fun.

The marina at the town of Seventeen Seventy is a popular departure point for Southern Great Barrier Reef tours such as a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island. Here you can dive or snorkel in the 1000 acre coral lagoon, teeming with tropical fish, dolphins, turtles, manta rays and vividly colourful coral. From July to November you can also see magnificent humpback whales on their annual migrations.

The freshwater Lake Awoonga is open for fishing all year round. Take your own boat or hire one and enjoy a tussle with a barramundi, mangrove jack, grunter or perch. The region also has several impressive National Parks such as Kroombit Tops, great for camping and 4WD adventures.
