Make your own four wheel drive adventure on Fraser Island! Fraser Island is strictly four wheel drive territory only and Fraser Island Barges operate vehicle barges from Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach.

Fraser Island Vehicle Barges allow great access to Fraser Island for four wheel drive enthusiasts.

The Fraser Venture Vehicle barge operates between River Heads / Hervey Bay and Wanggoolba Creek daily. The Kingfisher Bay Vehicle Barge operates between River Heads / Hervey Bay and Kingfisher Bay Resort daily. The Fraser Explorer and Rainbow Venture Vehicle barge operates between Inskip Point / Rainbow Beach and Hook Point at the southern end of Fraser Island daily. Please contact them or check online for updated operating schedules.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service permits are required for driving and camping on the island. Drivers should be aware of tide times and keep off the beach for two hours either side of high tide.

How To Get There:
Kingfisher Bay and Fraser Venture Vehicle Barges depart from River Heads, Hervey Bay.
From Hervey Bay turn on to Elizabeth Street from Boat Harbour Drive at the roundabout near the Urangan Woolworths. Follow the road past airport turning left on to the River Heads Road (which is signed) and follow the road all the way to end, arriving at the barge loading area.
From Maryborough, follow the Maryborough - Hervey Bay Road turning on to Boral Road and then continuing through to River Heads Road which goes all the way through to barge loading area.
Fraser Explorer and Rainbow Venture Vehicle Barges depart from Inskip Point, Rainbow Beach. Turn off the Bruce Highway at Gympie onto the Tin Can Bay Road. Continue following all Rainbow Beach signs to township (approximately 60 minutes traveling). From Rainbow Beach follow Inskip Point Road to its end where you will see the white barges.

Tariff Information:
There is a booking office located at River Heads where payment for vehicle barge and National Park Permits can be purchased.
Ticket collection at River Heads is at the ticket hut adjacent to the barge ramp. All vehicles must check in before boarding barge. Assemble vehicles in the marked area and be ready to board barge 20 minutes prior to departure time.
For Inskip Point access, tickets may be pre purchased at the Shell service station in Rainbow Beach (on Main road coming into town on the left hand side) and discounts are available on fuel purchases made in conjunction with a barge ticket.
For passengers wanting to travel to Fraser Island via River Heads but depart the Island via Hook Point to Rainbow Beach a 'Thru' ticket is available.

Cancellation Information:
Bookings cancelled more then 48 hours prior to departure will incur no cancellation fee. Bookings cancelled between 24 hours to 48 hours prior to departure will incur a 50 per cent cancellation fee. Bookings cancelled within 24 hours prior to departure or failure to show will incur a 100 per cent cancellation fee.

Fraser Venture Vehicle Barge

The Fraser Venture Vehicle Barge operates three return daily services between River Heads, which is located 20 minutes south of Hervey Bay and Wanggoolba Creek, located around the middle section of Fraser Island. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

Fraser Explorer and Rainbow Venture Vehicle Barges

The Fraser Explorer and Rainbow Venture Vehicle Barges operate between Inskip Point, near Rainbow Beach and Hook Point, located at the southern end of Fraser Island.

The vehicle barges operate continuously on a daily basis between 6.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. The journey takes 15 minutes and both vehicle barges are 'drive-on drive-off'.

Fraser Dawn Vehicle Barge

Fraser Dawn departs Urangan Boat harbour, landing at Moon Point on Fraser Island - crossing time taking approximately 55 minutes. Moon Point is directly opposite Happy Valley on Fraser Island's West Coast.

Departure times from Moon Point: Please check sailing times with Reservations on 1800 BARGES as this is not a scheduled service.
