Mention the Fraser Coast and most people immediately think of Fraser Island with its stunning freshwater lakes, long beaches only accessible by four wheel drive, and wide array of flora and fauna.

While Fraser Island is definitely a highlight of any trip to the Fraser Coast, the region also offers a rich array of natural encounters, coastal living and cultural gems.

If you visit between June and November you can go whale watching at Hervey Bay. Or, take your time to explore the little fishing villages that dot the shore along the Great Sandy Strait. Otherwise, head inland to see the array of colonial architecture in Maryborough, the mighty Mary River and the hinterland townships packed with country charm.

You will soon see that the beauty of the Fraser Coast extends through the whole region.
