Creeks, waterfalls and a variety of vegetation types are protected in Kroombit Tops National Park and Forest Reserve on the 800-900 metre high Kroombit Tops Plateau.
This large protected area is the headwaters for many creeks and a refuge for wildlife including tropical and subtropical rainforest species and animals close to the limit of their usual range.
The Beautiful Betsy Walk travels from the four-wheel-drive scenic drive and leads to the site of a 1945 World War II bomber plane, ""Beautiful Betsy"" crash on the western side of the plateau. Read the interpretive signage to learn more about this tragedy and how the crash site was discovered many years later.

How to get There
The main access to Kroombit Tops is from the north via the Tableland Road, which is suitable for conventional vehicles. From Calliope follow the Dawson Highway south-west towards Biloela for 4 kilometres and turn left onto Many Peaks Road. Follow this road for 1.5 kilometres then turn right onto Tableland Road. The park boundary is a further 50 kilometres along this road. An alternative route exists via the Cedervale and Clewleys Gap roads from Ubobo. This road is rough and is only accessible by 4WD in good weather conditions. Go for a 90-minute scenic drive on a loop road through the park. Most of this circuit is four-wheel-drive only. Allow two hours for the drive.
