One of the most impressive areas of Capricorn is Carnarvon Gorge, an island of lively green in dry landscape. Dissected by soaring white sandstone cliffs and dotted with rock pools and spectacular waterfalls it offers many rewarding bushland walks. At one site, over 2000 ancient Aboriginal engravings, ochre stencils and freehand paintings adorn a sandstone wall. This stunning gallery contains one of the best examples of stencil art in Australia and is well worth the visit. Put simply, when you first see Carnarvon Gorge, you'll be blown away by the sheer size and scale of the Gorge... most feel as though they've stepped back into a "Lost World"!
