Natural Encounters

Just off the coast is the Southern Great Barrier Reef and the 18 islands of the Keppel Group. You'll find numerous secluded beaches, perfect snorkelling conditions in crystal clear waters, and campsites in the many National Parks. Sailing is a fantastic way to appreciate islands and surrounds, so why not join an experienced crew and spend a memorable day on deck.

Capricorn's wilderness areas offer remarkable variety. There's Carnarvon National Park with its delicate ferns, wonderful wildlife and 19,000 year old Aboriginal rock art amidst the towering sandstone cliffs of the famous Carnarvon Gorge. Blackdown Tableland National Park boasts a 600 metre sandstone plateau with lookouts and the picturesque Rainbow Falls.

Byfield National Park and State Forest abound with wonderful coastal scenery - rolling sand dunes, beaches, swamps, rainforest-edged creeks and rugged mountains.

For a natural encounter of a different kind visit a crocodile farm. Get your photo taken holding a baby croc and tuck into unique dishes like a delicious crocodile pie. Love your gemstones? Browse the shops at Rubyvale, Sapphire and Anakie or go fossicking for your own at Willows Gemfields. Guided mine tours are also available.

City folks rave about the farm stay experience which includes horse riding, 4WD tours and more. Come dinner time you'll enjoy traditional Aussie home style meals cooked in a camp oven under the stars.
