Footprints on Fraser offer guided, fully supported walking tours of World Heritage Fraser Island. The Great Walk, a new concept in tourism developed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, is a unique walking experience covering almost 90 kilometres of walking trails. Footprints on Fraser offer four day and five day walking tours which, in total, traverse 80 per cent of the Great Walk.
Their walks visit some of the most beautiful and admired sites on the island such as Central Station and Lake McKenzie as well as some of the most remote and fascinating such as the Valley of the Giants. Footprints on Fraser pride themselves in inviting you to join them to walk where the four wheel drive vehicles don't go.

The four day walk, an easy-to-medium walking challenge that will suit a broad range of walkers, visits four of the most beautiful lakes on Fraser Island, two of which you will camp at.
Visit the remarkable lakes, have the opportunity to swim all year round, and visit the rainforests of Central Station, Wanggoolba Creek and Pile Valley. The new campsite there is a treasure for walkers and is set amongst the rainforest giants, vines and palms. Tramp through banksia woodland, tall open forest, melaleuca wetlands, the ancient dunes of the central highlands and the developing dunes of the east coast.

The Five Day Forest Giants Walk visits the east-coast beaches, coloured sands, Lake Garawongera, Lake Wabby and the spectacular Valley of the Giants, where you will camp for two nights in the shadow of some of the most brilliant tree specimens on the island.
At night you will see the intriguing luminescent fungi, and there is a full day to visit the two famous floral monuments, the Giant Satinay and Giant Tallowwood.
Landforms and vegetation types vary from closed rainforest, the more open blackbutt forest of the ridges, central dunes, and the spectacular Hammerstone sandblow which encroaches on famous Lake Wabby.

Tours are multi-day in a remote area and guests need a reasonable level of fitness. Guests must also be prepared for a camping situation with restricted access to most facilities including bathroom, shower, phone and shops. Swimming in the lakes is possible on both tours. The itinerary may vary due to tide times and weather.
Four day Great Lakes Walk - Most days walking is about a half-day between campsites but each day is different. For more details see the itinerary. An experienced guide leads the walk. No more than eight guests per tour. On the Four day Great Lakes Walk there is one campsite with a shower. Five day Forest Giants Walk - The walks between campsites are a little longer and the area more remote. Walking conditions are a little more difficult but still varying from easy to medium. On the Five day Forest Giants Walk there are no showers at the campsites.
The island is famous for its wildlife including 350 bird species, Australian's most pure strain of dingo, sand monitors, snakes and numerous mammal species. It has an aboriginal history spanning thousands of years and a fascinating history of colonial development through the forestry industry, mining and more recently tourism.
Fraser Island is a unique World Heritage icon being the world's largest sand island with over 40 lakes including most of the world's perched lakes, towering forests, vegetation and landform types as diverse as huge sandblows, coastal sand dunes, cliffs of coloured sands, heathland, open forests and rainforests. Clear freshwater creeks drain the island. Swimming is possible all year round.
Fly direct to Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) from Sydney or Brisbane. Train from Brisbane to Maryborough West Station with connecting Trainlink coach service to Hervey Bay. Coach to Hervey Bay from Brisbane. By car Hervey Bay is four hours north of Brisbane along the Bruce Highway, turning off at Maryborough.
