The Workshops Rail Museum is an AUD20 million wholly interactive authentic heritage and cultural experience located at Australia's oldest operating railway workshop.

Hands-on exhibits and multi-media encounters bring rail to life with modern displays, train simulators, real trains to climb aboard, the Nippers Railway kid zone and the largest model railway of Queensland. The Workshops Rail Museum also plays host to a range of exhibitions and exciting school holiday events throughout the year, including the annual "Day out with Thomas" event.

See sparks fly and feel the heat of the furnaces as you enter the largest industrial site in Australia open for public access. Enclosed footwear required.

The Workshops Rail Museum is a child friendly venue with a number of displays and activities designed especially for children, including the popular Nippers Railway.

The Workshops Rail Museum is a disabled friendly venue with disabled toilets, flat surfaces and ramps for all displays and exhibitions.

Entity Restrictions

Guests must wear enclosed footwear to go on a Behind The Scenes Tour of the Working Workshops.

General Comments

The Workshops Rail Museum has a licensed Trackside Cafe. The Trackside Cafe is a licensed cafe that caters from school group bookings to corporate functions with a capacity of 120 people.

Group bookings are available for groups of 15 or more who have pre-booked. Ask about the group packages including morning/afternoon teas and lunch.

How To Get There

The Workshops Rail Museum is an easy 40 minute drive from downtown Brisbane and parking is free. Follow the Cobb & Co Tourist Drive signs when you arrive in Ipswich.

Queensland Rail runs trains from Brisbane's Central Station and Roma Street Station to Ipswich Station regularly. Contact TransLink for details.

Bus transfers from Ipswich Station to the Workshops Rail Museum are operated by Westside Buses. Contact TransLink for details.

Extensive coach parking is available on site.
