Description
The Lower Bellbird Circuit is in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park which boasts extensive walking tracks along the McPherson Range, allowing visitors to explore the area's forests, creeks and waterfalls. Dramatic lookouts afford views over the Gold Coast, south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
The Lower Bellbird track uses part of the Ships Stern track as far as the bottom of Nixon Creek Valley. The track then descends sharply into the Nixon Creek valley. Down the track, the outcrop known as Kong Gong Rock is reached with the track passing through a cleft in the rock.
... moreThe track winds down through eucalypt forest and reaches the Lower Bellbird circuit junction where it passes into rainforest and mixed forest with eucalypts and casuarinas. The track finally leaves the rainforest and enters an area where there was an old dairy farm and traces of its previous existence are still readily visible.

Best Time To Go
The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a reduced chance of rain and leeches.

General Comments
Features of the Lower Bellbird circuit include: Gondwana Rainforests of Australian Heritage Area, mixed forest with eucalypts and casuarinas and lookouts. This circuit branches off the Ships Stern circuit, 3.7 kilometres from the entrance. The circuit passes through a patch of dry rainforest. Follow the circuit below Bellbird lookout and emerge at a clearing, once a dairy farm. Continue the return circuit by walking beside the Binna Burra Road.
The Lower Bellbird circuit is approximately 12 kilometres long, with an easy to moderate degree of difficult which takes approximately four hours to complete. Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. Please note that choosing to return via the Caves track adds 1.6 kilometres to the walk.
How To Get There
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a 90 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway exit 34 and route 92 to Tamborine, and route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometres drive is very narrow.
