The Illinbah circuit is located in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park. This stunning national park boasts extensive walking tracks along the McPherson Range, which allow visitors to explore the area's forests, creeks and waterfalls. Dramatic lookouts afford views over the Gold Coast, south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
... moreLamington is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world. The Illinbah circuit track now crosses the river 12 times before reaching Illinbah.
The Old Cedar Road is sometimes in poor condition and the river crossings are often difficult because the frequent floods change the positions of boulders and track entrances. Usually the track endings on each side of the river are marked with an easily visible red tag on a tree.

Walk Hints
Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. This track should not be attempted when the river is in flood.
Best Time To Go
The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lesened chance of rain and leeches.

General Comments
Illinbah circuit features picabeen palms, strangler fig trees, views of Coomera River and Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. This track circuit requires a high degree of fitness and experience. To walk the Illinbah circuit clockwise, start at the carpark near the national park information centre and descend through rainforest and open forest to the Coomera River. A rough track then follows the "Old Cedar Road" and crosses the Coomera River several times. The circuit track then leaves the river and ascends the Beechmont Range to return to Binna Burra.
The Illinbah circuit is approximately 16.6 kilometres long, has a moderate to hard degree of difficulty and will take approximately 8 hours to complete. Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. Creek crossings can be hazardous after heavy rain and should not be attempted when the river is in flood. In hot weather it may be less strenuous to walk this circuit in an anticlockwise direction. Always carry enough drinking water.
How To Get There
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a 90 minutes drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway exit 34 and route 92 to Tamborine, and route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometres drive is very narrow.
