Gwongoorool is a large rock pool in the Coomera River. The track descends towards the Coomera Gorge and passes through a mixture of eucalypt forest and rainforest. It is quite steep in some areas and steps are often used.
During the descent, the track passes by the base of some beautiful cliff structures. This part of the track is also the beginning of the track to Illinbah. At the bottom of the Gorge, the track to Illinbah turns off to the right, but the track to Gwongoorool leads off to the left and soon reaches the Coomera River margins.
Allow plenty of time to walk back up the track. Gwongoorool is a good place to have lunch.

Walk Hints
Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. There are over 100 steps on this track and persons with any walking disabilities should consider them carefully before attempting this walk.

General Comments
The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lessened chance of rain and leeches. Features of Gwongoorool Track include: Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, rock pools and beautiful cliff structures.
This track starts at the car park near the national park information centre and descends down a series of steep steps past cliffs of volcanic ash (tuff), through open forest and rainforest to Gwongoorool Pool on the Coomera River. Return on the same track and sets of stairs.
The Gwongoorool Track is approximately six kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. The track is classified as moderately difficult.
Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. There are over 100 steps on this track and persons with any walking disabilities should consider them carefully before attempting the walk. Eels inhabit the Coomera River. They bite when threatened and injuries have occurred.
How To Get There
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a one hour 30 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway exit 34 and route 92 to Tamborine, and route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometres drive is very narrow.
