This Sunday June 24th Brisbane is invited to take a trip around the globe at the annual 2012 World Refugee Day Community Festival (WRDCF), a colourful, free, energetic, fun, family friendly event celebrating the diversity and contribution of our newly arrived refugee communities across South East Queensland.

The Multicultural Development Association (MDA) has been organising this event on behalf of the Brisbane City Council for the last three years, with attendances growing from 8,000 in 2009 to 15,000 in 2011. Now, thoroughly established as the largest refugee festival in Australia, Brisbane's WRDCF 2012 is set to be even bigger.

The Festival program features many cultural performances, food and community stalls, children's activities, a citizenship ceremony and a collaborative community workshop program which also includes Football and Volleyball Tournaments. The event also features a vast variety of food stalls showcasing flavours from all across the world.

One of the primary reasons for the WRDCF's ongoing success has been it's astounding international culinary appeal, the likes of which doesn't occur in any one place at any one time anywhere else on Brisbane's festival calendar. The event features a vast variety of food stalls showcasing all the flavours of Africa, the Middle East, Asia and everywhere in between. In celebration of this, this year will see celebrated celebrity chef Ben O'Donoghue (The Best of Australia) join the program hosting a cooking workshop whereby he will be swapping recipes with five multicultural community cooks.
