... moreThe Retreat provides facilities which are simple, functional and sustainable. They offer three dormitory style cabins, an area for camping and a fully functional kitchen and dining hall. They are not designed for a jam packed experience: bookings are kept deliberately low.
They are indeed fortunate to be surrounded by national park, and adjacent to some of the most spectacular walks in a pristine world heritage wilderness area. Located at 750 metres above sea level, this gives guests unrivalled and fast access to the mountains of the Focal Peak caldera, the remnants of an ancient range of volcanoes and to the Gondwana rainforests. There are some very easy walks that are ideal for leisurely stroll through the forest. These walks take about 30 minutes and start and finish at the camping ground.

How To Get There
Brisbane to Boonah -
Ipswich Motor Way (Ipswich Road)
Right onto Warwick / Cunningham Highway (Route 15)
Left at the Yamanto off ramp exit.
Left onto Ipswich - Boonah Rd (Route 93)
Coming into Boonah at the roundabout take the first exit on the left into Yeates Avenue.
Boonah to Mt Barney Retreat
Take the Rathdowney - Boonah Road south out of Boonah. At 21 kilometres Maroon Lake is on your right.
Cross Burnett Creek.
Right into Burnett Creek Road.
Left into Newman Road (dirt road).
If you go past a farm on your left you have gone too far.
Right into Waterfall Creek Road.
Waterfall Creek Road to Clear Ridge.
The climb starts to Clear Ridge. Waterfall Creek Road ends in a dead end.
Keep on until you see the locked gate. This is the entry to the Retreat.
Locked Gate to Mt Barney Retreat
The gate will be opened so proceed directly in front of you, follow the ribbons for 1.6 kilometres until you come to the Retreat. The track is narrow and steep in places and one way.
The three cabins can easily accommodate up to eight people each. All the cabins have a least one double bed bunk with the Montserrat cabin having three. They are basic but comfortable - shady and cool in the summer but tad chilly in the winter. So make sure you bring a warm clothes and a sleeping bag. Its dormitory style accommodation with single and double bunk beds, a changing room and locker room in which to store any valuables. All cabins have adequate shade in the afternoon and louvre windows along both sides to allow you to moderate air flow throughout the cabin to pick up the cool summer breezes.
