Central Queensland & Bundaberg Holidays - Turtle Season - Turtle Watching Information

Turtle Watching Information

In the Central Queensland and Bundaberg regions turtles nest in large numbers at Mon Repos Conservation Park on the mainland, and Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands offshore.

Mon Repos beach is the most accessible turtle nesting site on the east coast. At 15 km from Bundaberg, Mon Repos is about four and a half hours drive from Brisbane. Mon Repos supports the largest numbers of nesting sea turtles and is among the most popular sites with loggerhead turtles.

During turtle season access to Mon Repos beach at night is reserved for Turtle Watching Tours. Sharing Mon Repos with the nesting turtles is an honour that rangers and turtle guides facilitate in order to minimise disruption to the ancient ritual.

The Mon Repos Conservation Park turtle watching season is open for bookings from early September for tours beginning early November. The season will run through until the end of March. The Mon Repos Visitors Centre also offers slide shows, films, displays, and the opportunity to talk to rangers and turtle volunteers.
