Wait A While Retreat in the Daintree is one of the largest single dwellings ever constructed in the Daintree Rainforest. Designed by award-winning, South African architect Gavin Paddock, and modelled on the traditional New Guinean long-house, Wait a While Daintree provides almost 500 square metres of living space.

Whilst you are driving from Cairns to the Wait A While Retreat, you will pass several small townships. The first one of these is Port Douglas, with the turnoff about one hour north of Cairns. You will then pass through a small town called Mossman, and if time permits, the Mossman Gorge is a beautiful national park with barbecue area, swimming hole and rainforest walks. You will see the turn off for the Mossman Gorge just as you drive through the main street of Mossman on the left.

The township of Mossman also is great place to pickup supplies. Mossman has a Woolworth's shopping centre and bottle shop, open 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Port Douglas also has a shopping centre 200 metres from the turn off. There is a small shop not far from the house but please keep in mind it can be costly and only holds small amounts of fruit, vegetables, meats and fuel. Great for all the little things you may need.
If you are planning to arrive after 5.00 p.m. it would be helpful if you could let them know so they can leave a light on for you. They will have been at the house on the day of your arrival and will leave the house unlocked and the key on the kitchen bench for easy access.

How To Get There:
Wait A While Retreat is situated approximately two and a half hours north of Cairns. From the airport turnoff, turn north (right) onto the Captain Cook Highway. This highway will lead all the way until the Daintree Ferry turnoff (approximately two hours from Cairns, 30 minutes from Mossman) The Daintree Ferry turnoff is situated across from the Crossroads Cafe, and has a large sign that says 'Daintree Ferry/Cape Tribulation' turnoff. The Ferry runs from 6.00 a.m. until midnight, seven days a week. Wait A While Retreat is around 18 kilometres north of the Ferry. You will pass over the Alexandra Range until you get to Cow bay. Travel to the Cow Bay Hotel/Motel and travel 200 minutes past to turn right onto Buchannan Creek Road and travel for six kilometres. Wait A While retreat is the last house on the left.
