Boasting 14 acres of gently rolling hills, Thornton Country Retreat Bed and Breakfast is an old school built in 1889 and sits snugly along Laidley Creek between the Great Dividing Range and Little Liverpool Ranges. The views are magnificent from any direction and the quiet location ensures an ambience of total seclusion and tranquility; the perfect environment for those who like to read, walk, bike ride, appreciate wildlife or who wish to do nothing at all.

Thornton Country Retreat Bed and Breakfast boasts Avalon Cottage; a tastefully decorated, self contained cottage entirely wood panelled with front and rear screen enclosed balconies. Choose from a one night stay, two night mid-week or weekend getaway or a three night stay. They can cater for wedding nights, weekends, two and three night packages, and can also tailor a package to suit your requirements. Beautifully presented gift certificates are also available.

How To Get There:
Coming from either the Toowoomba region (west) or the Brisbane region (east), you need to be on the Warrego Highway and take the Laidley exit at the overpass at Plainland. From there travel approximately five kilometres into Laidley, through town for two kilometres and then turn right towards Mulgowie for 10 kilometres. You will next see a sign that says Thornton which is 20 kilometres away.
Stay on Mulgowie Road and you will pass the Mulgowie Hotel on your right. Follow the bend and the retreat is another 11 kilometres along on your right. The entrance is well signposted over the letterbox.

They also provide dinner snack platters with a selection of cheeses, fruit, nuts and crackers, strawberries with dipping chocolate, or flowers to be in your room for your arrival. Speciality cakes are also available and made to your requirements.
Avalon Cottage has all the modern facilities you'd expect in a resort however they are provided in an atmosphere of true country hospitality. Feel free to mingle and chat with the owners or be left in total privacy. You will not forget the majestic mountains with their glorious views towards Cunningham's Gap, and the absolute peace of their hidden hideaway. Avalon Cottage

Avalon Cottage is an open plan, airy and entirely wood paneled cottage with cathedral ceilings. There is a wood/iron queen bed, and Egyptian 1000 thread count sheets provide luxury sleeping comfort. Fluffy towels and bathrobes and all toiletries also provided.

The cottage consists of a lounge area with comfy lounge and small library with radio / CD player and television with DVD, a reading area and a dining set completes the kitchenette facilities. All cooking appliances, crockery and cutlery is provided. Both front and rear verandahs are screen enclosed for your year round comfort.

Enjoy soaking in the claw foot bath in the Federation ensuite.
