Orchid Guest House offers budget travellers or business visitors the option of staying in a quiet, homely atmosphere, where they can expect a peaceful sleep (no noise after 10.00 p.m.) and to relax in a tranquil setting amongst the palm trees and orchids. All ages can, if they wish, enjoy the friendly interaction with fellow guests as they unwind from their travelling or the day's activities. Some may decide to use the fully equipped kitchen. There is a free washing machine and line space in the garden. In the backyard there is off street parking or there is a free pick up on arrival from bus, train or ferry. The Airport Bus will drop off or pick up at the door.

Orchid Guest House is only 600 metres from the Townsville City Mall for Sunday markets, shopping and nightclubs (Irish Pubs a block further). A supermarket is just 400 metres. A 20 minute walk will bring you to Townsville's beautiful Strand; the Museum; the Aquarium; the Cultural Centre or Casino. If you prefer you can use The Red Bus to make your way around these attractions. Billabong Sanctuary and the Yongala Wreck and Reef trips pick up by arrangement.

General Comments

Orchid Guest House is mostly enjoyed by the budget traveller or discerning backpackers, but is also popular with university students (and their parents) while they find their long term accommodation. Business and convention clientel also find the facilities and location convenient. They often have small groups for weddings or other functions.

While not suitable for small children, an older child or two can sometimes be accommodated.

Orchid Guest House is a member of the Townsville Magnetic Island Backpacker Association.

How To Get There

Orchid Guest House is close to the Townsville city centre at 34 Hale Street, between Stanley Street and Stokes Street.

Hale Street between Stokes Street and Murray Street is one way towards the sea, so come up Stokes Street (which begins at the middle of Flinder's Mall), and come up past Woolworths.

Hale is the fourth street. Turn left and you will find Orchid Guest House 30 metres from the corner. It's the second building on the left.
