Description

Heron Island is a true coral cay, located right on the Great Barrier Reef. The island is ribboned by sugar white sands, crystal clear waters and acres of coral with beautifully coloured marine life. At this World Heritage-listed Marine National Park all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's paradise, where the emphasis is on enjoying natural beauty. Stress is replaced by a sense of adventure, and your days are filled with discovery.

Heron offers many activities such as guided island and reef walks, semi-submersible cruises and private beach picnics. An amazing array of animal and bird life can be discovered throughout the year, such as the delightful Green and Loggerhead Turtles. Heron is also world famous for its fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling. Experience some of Australia's best dive spots - more than 20 dive sites are available, half of which are only 15 minutes from the beach.

At certain times of the year, turtle nesting and hatching take precedent over all other island activities. At Heron Island, the resort has been thoughtfully designed to blend with the surrounding environment.

Children:
Children are welcome. Children 12 years and under stay and eat free when using existing bedding. Heron Junior Ranger Program offers a wide range of nature based activities and the chance to earn up to 15 badges, with the help of a Heron Naturalist Guide. Eligible age group is seven to 12 years inclusive and it operates daily during Australian eastern seaboard school holidays. The program is also available outside these dates by prior arrangement when three or more children are enrolled. A one off registration fee per child applies, and includes free access to most activities, workbook and 15 badges as they are earned. Babysitting is available on request throughout the year at an additional charge.

Disabled:
Disabled are catered for; one room is disable assisted but does not offer full disabled facilities.

Cancellation Information:
Seven to four days prior to arrival, a cancellation fee equivalent to one night's accommodation (per room cancelled) applies, based on original booked dates. Within 72 hours of arrival, a full cancellation fee applies of full contracted rate per confirmed room per night, meals, pre-booked transfers and Heron Island day tours.
Festive Season (17 December to 15 January) - Within 30 days of festive season a full cancellation fees applies of full contracted rate per confirmed room per night, pre-booked transfers and Heron Island day tours.

Further Details:
What to bring - Pack casual beach wear for daytime and smart casual for after 6.00 p.m. Also include camera, binoculars and infants food (if applicable). Protective footwear available on loan.

How To Get There:
Regular flights are available from all major Australian capital cities to Gladstone with Qantas. Gladstone is a one hour and 20 minute flight or six hour drive from Brisbane. A courtesy coach departs Gladstone Airport daily to Gladstone marina to connect with Heron Island launch service. Heron Island is two hours by air-conditioned launch. Departs Gladstone marina at 11.00 a.m. and returns at 3.45 p.m. daily (except Christmas Day). It is also possible to arrive by helicopter, which takes 30 minutes from Gladstone airport and is operated by Australian Helicopters. Baggage allowance for helicopter is one soft-sided suitcase of 15 kilograms inclusive of one piece of hand luggage. Excess luggage storage available at airport free of charge.

Turtle Room

Located in a garden setting a short walk away from the beach, these cottages have a relaxed casual style. Built in duplex fashion with two rooms per block, all Turtle Rooms are at ground level and feature a large deck and outdoor area. Interiors are bright and fresh, compact but comfortable. Standard and family rooms are available.

Positioned closer to the beach, Reef Rooms offer filtered reef and water views through a canopy of beachside trees. The living area extends outdoors to a balcony or garden setting, interiors are light-filled, modern and comfortable. Standard and family rooms are available.

Heron Beachside Suite

Offering absolute beach frontage with direct access to the water and views of the reef, Heron Beachside Suites are generous in size with villa style inclusions. Double glass sliding doors fill the room with natural light and connect both the spacious bedroom and separate living space to a large outdoor balcony. The living area features a divan as well as comfortable armchairs and coffee table. A large bathroom and an in-room compact disc player are among some of the other features of the Heron Suite.

Wistari Suites enjoy secluded garden setting with ocean views and offer maximum privacy. Point/Wistari Suites are air-conditioned and enjoy a range of additional in room comforts including a fully stocked min bar, compact disc player and phones. The generous living area extends through to an extensive outdoor terrace where sun lounges, for the exclusive use of Point Suite guests can be found. Guests receive a bottle of wine on arrival, evening canapes, nightly turndown service and complimentary snorkelling equipment for two adults for the duration of your stay.

Beach House

The Beach House offers a superior style of accommodation with a high degree of privacy. Set within a grove of trees, a private boardwalk provides access to the beach. Air-conditioned, the Beach House offers a separate bedroom with spacious ensuite including a bath and shower and an expansive living area including oversized sofa and a work desk with direct dial STD/IDD telephone. Guests receive a bottle of wine on arrival, evening canapes, nightly turndown service and complimentary snorkelling equipment for two adults for the duration of your stay. The Beach House also offers its own private outdoor shower.
