Description

Deep in the heart of the Gulf Savannah region in Far North Queensland is a hidden outback oasis - Cobbold Gorge. This Savannah Guide Station is located on a working cattle property and features a unique, narrow gorge set amid rugged sandstone formations with spectacular 30 metre cliffs that narrow to just 2m wide. To protect the fragile environment, access is by guided tour only. Cruise the gorge in an electric boat to explore the ancient geology with an expert guide - an awesome and unforgettable experience. Discover wildlife, go bushwalking or birdwatching, spot a crocodile, catch a barramundi and experience life on a cattle station.

Three different tours are available with something to suit everyone - the gorge tour, station tour and scenic helicopter flights.

There is no need to rough it -accommodation ranges from recently refurbished air-conditioned ensuite rooms to shady campsites. There are powered and ensuite suites in the grassed camping area. McDonalds Deck provides snacks, meals and a licensed bar to relax and take in the peaceful atmosphere. The friendly staff and well-informed guides will help make your visit memorable. If you are limited for time, consider flying in - a well-maintained airstrip is located nearby.

Getting off the beaten track doesn't mean going without comfortable accommodation. If you are an adventurous grey nomad, on family holiday, with your partner, children or travelling on your own, Cobbold Gorge offers accommodation options and rates to suit every group and budget.

The well-appointed, recently refurbished rooms are air-conditioned with ensuites and television, bar fridge and tea/coffee making facilities.

Rouseabout Rooms are motel-style and available as singles or doubles.

Boundary Huts are stand-alone cabins offering outdoor sitting areas, available as doubles (additional trundle bed/portacot available for children under 12) .

Station Suites are semi-self-contained with microwave, toaster and sink and a veranda. They are available as single, twin, queen, king or as family rooms (Maximum two adults and four children possible in adjoining rooms).

Camping Sites

Cobbold Village offers a level soft camp ground with lots of trees. The excellent amenities provide clean toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, fresh water on tap and individual fireplaces and barbecues (firewood also available for collection). Caravans are welcome with powered sites available within the camp grounds, and ensuite powered sites available in a separate area. Join the ranks of those who come for a day and stay for a week (60 camping sites).
