Description

The original Chillagoe Post Office for many years was occupied as a private residence. Now, extensively renovated in recent times it offers six comfortable rooms as a guest house, located across the road from the Post Office Hotel; Chillagoe Guest House.

They offer excellent centrally located accommodation featuring air conditioning and queen size beds. Chillagoe Guest House is only short walking distance to shops, hotels and their visitors information centre, the ""hub"".

Chillagoe Town itself boasts many historical attractions still standing from the mining era in the early 1900's. Today mining activity is re-emerging.

For the visitor to Chillagoe, there are the Limestone Caves, Historical Smelter Site, Marble Mining and swimming holes.

The building is divided in two sections with a sound proof wall between, each having separate kitchen and bathrooms.
The front (original post office counter) having two rooms is ideally suited to a family, the rear (postmaster residence) having four rooms is perfect for group bookings.

How To Get There:
From Cairns take the Kuranda Range road to Mareeba then via the "Wheelbarrow Way" to Dimbulah, Petford and then on to Chillagoe. It is about one hour and 40 minutes from Mareeba. Take care as the last 30 kilometres is unsealed, please drive to the conditions.
For traveller information go to the Cairns Outback web site and download the Wheelbarrow Way Directory. It has a touring map and all information for travelling between Mareeba and Chillagoe.
