Description

Make your base camp here at the Explorers Caravan Park in Thargomindah, just a two minute walk from town. Perhaps take it easy on this holiday and relax, stroll down to the Bulloo River, put in yabbie pots for a true outback lunch, or take a walk around the river to the Cobb and Co Crossing to see the wonderful bird life here. Perhaps have a few day's break from the roads and just watch the birds visiting the native shrubs in the park.

About 40 kilometres from Thargomindah on the bitumen road eastwards takes you to Lake Bindegolly National Park where you can amaze at the abundance of birds and stroll along the walks around the Lake.

Take a day trip along the all bitumen roads to see the historic hotels around them at Noccundra, Eromanga, Quilpie and Toompine. Call in to see Thargomindah's Old Hospital which is now their Visitor Information Centre and while you are there check out the weather for a visit to the Burke and Wills ""Dig Tree"".

Come back each day and meet up with old and new friends and recount your adventure around the campfire, barbecue or in the camp kitchen.

Explorers Caravan Park welcomes children under their parents control please. The Bulloo Shire has provided a playground area for families with a free barbecue and public toilets for your use just a short stroll down-town, about 50 metres down the road.

Disabled:
Facilities are available for guests with a disability. Explorers Caravan Park has wheelchair access and showers and toilets for guests requiring to use facilities for the disabled. The park also has an ensuite cabin which is set-up especially for disabled guests.

Pets Allowed:
Yes. Explorers Caravan Park welcome your pets under control and on a leash please, and appreciate owners who of course clean up after them. About 20 metres from the park, along The Bulloo River Walk, dogs are permitted off lead.

Further Details:
Owned by the Bulloo Shire Council, the Park offers 25 large powered sites (17 drive-through) with dump facilities located on every site. There are numerous unpowered bush sites, six fully self-contained luxury cabins and a bunkhouse for the budget conscious with four single rooms.

How To Get There:
Drive straight down Dowling Street and into the Caravan Park at the end of town. They are 1,000 kilometres west of Brisbane on the Adventure Way Tourist Route, less than 200 kilometres west of Cunnamulla. 370 kilometres east of Innamincka. Less than 200 kilometres south of Quilpie.

Luxury Ensuite Cabins

The Ensuite Cabins built of sandstone bricks provide a studio-style room with a double bed, a single bed plus a trundle single bed, or rooms with a double bed and a fold-out couch to another double bed . Towels, linen, full cooking facilities, pots, cutlery, crockery, heating/cooling - everything you can think of is provided for a comfortable and memorable stay.

Enjoy watching the sun rise, have a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine and put your feet up and relax in your own patio area. Take a short walk across to the park barbecue to enjoy some outside cooking and catching up with tales from other travellers.

The larger family can book two adjacent cabins providing two ensuites using the internal doors.

Bunkhouse Room

Solidly built of sandstone bricks, these rooms provide budget accommodation with a few of the important little luxuries included. Our Bunkhouse Rooms provide you with your own room, with single beds, towels and linen supplied, heating/air conditioning, television, fridge, sink and cupboard. Bring your own dishes and pots. Camp Kitchen is only a few steps away, with two electric cookers ovens, microwave, toaster and an urn on the constant boil. One electric and one gas barbecue. Patio furniture for your convenience is just outside your room so that you can enjoy the view of the setting sun, or just sit, relax and read a book in comfort. A further very short walk takes you to the shared amenities for a wonderful hot shower.

Caravan and Camping Sites

Explorers Caravan Park has 25 powered sites with dump points at each site, and shrubs and trees between. A large unmarked bush camping area is available for those seeking unpowered sites for caravans or camping.

A large Camp Kitchen and barbecue area provides excellent cooking facilities for all, a step away from the laundry facilities and ample showers and toilets.
