The drive to their lodge from the village of Cooktown is only 25 minutes south on the Mulligan Highway, it is sealed all the way to near the lodge driveway (4 kilometres). Coming from Cairns, Helenvale is located 3 kilometres north of the Little Annan River crossing on the inland Mulligan Highway. This road is sealed all the way from Mareeba to to the Little Annan River and on to Cooktown.
Travelling the coast road, which is very scenic the road is sealed till Cape Tribulation. From this point on, the track is unsealed and very much 4x4 country. It is known as the notorious Bloomfield Track and spans from Cape Tribulation to the Bloomfield River where it then becomes the Bloomfield Road and mostly sealed until Shiptons Flat.
The coast road is often closed in the Wet season due to swollen river crossings, however the inland road is open 12 months of the year day and night and a great drive north.

There will be no cancellation charge if the booking is at full retail rate and cancelled 48 hours prior to arrival. Cancellation or no show within 48 hours, an overnight room cancellation charge will apply. Cancellations or no shows within 24hours accommodation and one day's pre arranged meals charge applies. All bookings made on special offers or industry discounts are payable in full with no refund available, but booking is transferable to an alternative date or person. Once flights bookings have been confirmed for packages there is a AUD35 per person cancellation fee.
Most transport options leave from Cairns, Mareeba, Mossman, Port Douglas or Palm Cove.

Inland road from Cairns to Helenvale (self drive) 3.5 hours.
Flight from Cairns to Cooktown 45 minutes.
Private transfer Cooktown airport to Mungumby 35 minutes.
Coastal Safari from Cairns via Cape Tribulation 6 hours.

Air safaris across the reef and rainforest are a spectacular way to visit, even if it is only one way! Self-drive or safari options from Cairns and its Northern Beaches also offer spectacular sights from the ground. Inland offers the true outback, unlike the rainforest clad coast road it is sealed almost all the way!
Flights are available to Cooktown twice per day (weekdays) and available on weekends through peak season. Airport transfers can be arranged by appointment
Private charter flights are available to Helenvale airstrip (private) 5 minutes from the lodge. The Helenvale airstrip is surveyed, in service and in excellent condition for most aircraft types. Please enquire!

If your dog is friendly, well behaved and remains on a lead, Mungumby Lodge and team are happy to ensure your dog has a great break to. Due to location and surrounding National Park, dogs must exercise on a lead also. Cats are unfortunately not allowed.
Access Public Transport
Public transport is operated by Country Road coach line. They operate basic seat in coach public transport options via Mareeba on the Mulligan Highway or along the rainforest and reef coast via Cape Tribulation, Wujal Wujal and Bloomfield.

As they say in Queensland "every day a blue day mate". The weather for their area is always good, whether it be the Summer or Winter.
Many travellers are advised not to travel to Cape York in summer? This is often an assumption due to the monsoonal rains across northern Australia. However, not so for the seasoned traveller visiting south east Cape York. Today most areas on Cape York are accessible all year round, if not by road certainly by air. Travelling to Cooktown is not only possible all year, but quick and easy. Mungumby Lodge welcomes guests twelve months of the year. Their properties peak tourist season at the lodge runs from June through to the second week in December. In January they become busy again until April, the numbers are slightly less than in winter, but the wildlife are out to play and excels. Being a small boutique resort style lodge they are never crowded,tranquillity and their location are their greatest assets.
Dry Season for them is generally - May - December with the calmest and bluest days recorded June till late November.
Wet Season for them is generally January - April with the highest rainfall often recorded in February and March
They have ten spacious wooden bungalows with ensuite bathrooms and private patios. These are constructed separately from each other and the main building within the gardens. A large spacious main building (Homestead) with wide-open living areas right on the edge the beautiful Mungumby Creek. For meals, reading or just plain relaxing by the pool guests use the spacious homestead, which is surrounded by large tropical gardens and pool overlooking the rainforest
