Henry Reppel came to Queensland from Germany in 1862 and worked as a shepherd on Goomburra Station. In the 1880s he opened the Boarding House in Drayton Street Allora which provided accommodation for workers such as shearers and apprentice blacksmiths in the district.
Recently, this historically listed building has been lovingly restored to its former glory. It contains many well-preserved period features that reflect the era in which it was originally built. It is now open to the public and known as Reppels Bed and Breakfast.
... moreEnjoy the country warmth of Allora - walk to the local shops, pubs, golf course and historic sites such as the Australian Join Stock Bank whose manager from 1905 until his death was Travers Robert Goff. His daughter, Helen Lyndon Goff wrote the Mary Poppins books under the name of P.L. Travers, based partly on her childhood experiences in the town.
So come and stay at Reppels Bed and Breakfast, meet the community of historic Allora and find out why it is known as the ""Best Little Town on the Downs"".
